Description
Albany Mansions, located at 347-353 Renfrew Street in Glasgow, is a Renaissance-style tenement designed by J J Burnet (Burnet, Son and Campbell) around 1896. The building is constructed from polished red ashlar and features four storeys and an attic, with seven unequal bays.
The entrances at Nos 347 and 353 have recessed doorways adorned with cast-iron porch grilles. Each of the three doors is fitted with leaded glass and fanlights. The windows are sash and case style, featuring either two-pane or circular glazing bars in the upper pane. The first and fourth bays are canted and rise to full height, topped with segmentally pedimented features. The second floor has applied aedicules with independent balustraded balconies, which are connected by a balustraded balcony on the first floor and a wrought-iron balcony on the second. The seventh bay is also canted to the second floor and has a balcony above. Each floor in the canted bays has cill bands, and the eaves are finished with a mutule cornice, with a parapet over the canted bays.
The western section of the building has three bays and features a skewed gable with a small attic window, which is topped with a sculpted, broken pediment and has a corniced wallhead stack. The roof is slate, and there are corniced wallhead and axial stacks.
The property is enclosed by boundary piers with wrought-iron railings.
