Hall, Belhaven United Presbyterian Church, 27-29 Dundonald Road, Glasgow

The Hall of Belhaven United Presbyterian Church, located at 27-29 Dundonald Road in Glasgow, was designed by architect James Sellars and constructed between 1876 and 1877. This apsidal church is built in the Normandy Gothic style and is oriented north to south. The exterior features stugged coursed ashlar with polished margins and dressings, highlighted by a main northern facade with a heavily buttressed gable that rises to 90 feet.

At ground level, there are three pairs of pointed-arch windows with colonnette mullions. Above these, three tall lancet windows are supported by two orders of nook shafts, and a blind arcade connects the buttresses below the gable head. This gable is flanked by octagonal pinnacles and includes a rose window. To the right, steps lead to a simply decorated pointed arch portal adorned with a band of foliate carving. A transcept-like tower rises above, containing a gallery stair. The aisles feature four 3-light clerestory windows, and the roofs are covered with slate.

Inside, the church has undergone some recent minor modifications to accommodate Greek Orthodox worship, but many original features remain intact. There is a four-arch arcade supported by octagonal columns, and a gallery to the north that is supported on brackets with a panelled front. The southern apse houses the organ and features a modern Byzantine screen with five pendant arches and icons, which incorporates part of the original screen as balustrading. A carved octagonal timber pulpit and stained glass by Stephen Adam from 1877 are also notable interior elements, along with a timber-lined collar-beam roof. The hall and vestry are located to the east.
