Description

8 Prince Albert Road in Glasgow is a double villa built around 1868, featuring simple classical details. It is located at the junction of Prince Albert Road and Sydenham Road. The building has two storeys and a basement, constructed of stugged ashlar, which is painted at No 7 Sydenham Road, with a polished ashlar base course and margins, and a stugged basement.

The elevation facing Prince Albert Road has four bays, with the outer bays at the ground floor featuring a three-light canted window. Above, there are pilastered tripartite windows in the inner bays. To the right, there is a ramped pilastered and corniced doorpiece, with pilastered reveals supporting a moulded archivolt over a leaded fanlight and double-leaf panelled doors. To the left, there is an architraved window. The first-floor windows have pilastered reveals.

The elevation to Sydenham Road has three bays and is similarly detailed. It features a centrally placed doorpiece and single-light sashes to the right, all detailed as described above, with a two-storey window to the left. The windows are sash with plate glass glazing, and the upper sashes of No 8 Prince Albert Road have small leaded panes. Continuous cill bands are present on the ground and first floors, topped with a modillion cornice. The building has axial stacks and slate roofs.

The rear elevation and east flank are made of stugged coursed ashlar with polished ashlar margins. There is a droved ashlar boundary wall with polished coping, featuring two pairs of tall square painted ashlar corniced gatepiers. The interiors boast good cornice plasterwork detail and a glazed cupola above the stairwell.
