Description
Macquisten Bridge is a road bridge built in 1832 and later widened by engineer James Gibson in 1907, while retaining its original profile, as noted in an inscription. The bridge features a single segmental arch that carries the roadway over the River Cart. It is constructed of honey-coloured ashlar, with a bolection-moulded arch that is presumably from the 1907 works. The bridge has panelled spandrels and piers at both ends, along with red granite balustraded parapets, which were also added in 1907, featuring intermediate blocks.
