Printing Works, 50 Darnley Street, 48, Glasgow

The Printing Works at 50 Darnley Street in Glasgow is a commercial building designed by D B Dobson (John Gordon and D B Dobson) and dated 1902. This three-storey structure features a red ashlar front with brick flanks, showcasing a modern movement style. To the right, there is a four-light splayed bay that is corbelled with an angle over the ground floor. The building is topped with a stepped crenellated parapet that includes a figure of Minerva. On the left side, a corbelled three-light bow is adorned with a carved figure above the first floor.

The top floor windows extend into the roof, while the first floor has two windows positioned above the entrance. The entrance features an elliptical arch with a keyblock, grouped under a sinuous cornice that also includes two smaller entrances. The large double doors are designed with oculi and art nouveau details on the handle and lock plates. An unusual feature is the rainwater goods, which include a griffin connecting the rhones to the right.

Inside, the first floor boasts exceptionally fine interiors, highlighted by coloured stained-glass windows by W G Morton, figure mosaics, intricate ironwork, and lamp fittings that incorporate holly, dolphin, and mistletoe details. Original embossed finger plates with sinuous door handles, fluted columns with free Ionic capitals, marble wall slabs, and panelled walls further enhance the interior's character.
