Description
This building, located at 1-5 Glasgow Street in Glasgow, dates from around 1852 and consists of a range of tenements that also feature a similarly detailed return elevation to 46-48 Otago Street. It stands three storeys over a basement, with both elevations comprising nine bays. The exterior is finished in polished ashlar, with a channelled design at the ground level, and has been stone cleaned.
The main doors are framed by pilaster doorpieces topped with mutule cornices and have deeply recessed pilastered reveals. All upper windows are architraved, with a cornice at the first floor. The sash windows have 12-pane glazing. Notably, the first and fourth bays of 1 Glasgow Street feature tripartite mullioned windows, while the remaining windows are single light. There is a moulded band course at the first floor cills, along with an eaves course and cornice. The building has wallhead and axial stacks, and is topped with slate roofs.
Inside, the property features cast-iron balusters on the cantilevered stone stairs, and there are cast-iron supporting columns at each landing.
