Description

527, 529, and 531 Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow is a classical three-storey tenement building designed by Charles Wilson in 1853. It is situated on the corner with modern shops and an Edwardian bank at the northeast corner. The building features 15 unequal bays arranged in a pattern of 5-5-5 on the main elevation, constructed from polished ashlar.

The windows on Sauchiehall Street include two-light windows in the 3rd and 13th bays, three-light windows in the 6th and 10th bays, and a four-light window in the 8th bay. On North Street, the first and 7th bays have three-light windows, with three centre windows grouped together. The building has sash and case windows throughout.

Notable architectural details include a cornice at the ground floor, a cill band at the first floor, and architraved windows with console cornices, featuring raised shell tympana above the centre windows of each block. The second floor has a moulded cill band and architraved windows, along with a bracketted cornice. The building is topped with a blocking course and corniced ridge stacks, with one reduced wallhead stack located in the westmost section facing Sauchiehall Street.
