Description
Dennistoun Library, located at 2A Craigpark in Glasgow, was designed by J R Rhind and built between 1903 and 1905 as a public library. It features an Edwardian Baroque style and is two stories high with a nearly symmetrical front. The exterior is made of polished ashlar with sculptured details, and the ground floor has a channelled finish. Each corner of the building has pavilioned end bays topped with winged figures. The elaborate three-bay center includes round-arched windows on the first floor, with a Venetian-style center flanked by pilasters. A parapet conceals the roof.
The interior originally featured a top-lit reading room but underwent significant alterations in 1967-1968 by Robert Rogerson and Philip Spence, working with the City Architect.
