Description

Partick Fire Station, located at 36 Sandy Road in Glasgow, was designed by James Miller and completed in 1906. This Edwardian Queen Anne Revival building is a three-storey, L-shaped fire station with firemen's dwellings arranged around a rear courtyard. The structure features window elevations measuring 15 by 19, with a plain return to Meadow Road. It is constructed from red brick with ashlar dressings, including an ashlar plinth, and has sash and case windows with keyblocked, 12-pane glazing.

The elevation facing Sandy Road includes a central three-bay section set in channelled strips with ashlar, featuring an arched carriage entrance. At the roof level, it has a segmentally pedimented design with a keyblocked oculus and relief sculpture. There is also a segmentally pedimented entrance at No. 9 Sandy Road, and a stack that is corbelled out at the first floor with a date panel, topped by a modillion cornice.

On the elevation to Beith Street, the windows are arranged in a segmentally pedimented style, with entrances at Nos. 120 and 122. This section has nine bays, while the western section features windows arranged in groups of two. The fire station includes five bays of ashlar arcaded engine house entrances, with a corniced frieze that reads "PARTICK FIRE BRIGADE STATION." Additionally, there are tall corniced axial and wallhead stacks, along with a tall, square, corniced tower located in the courtyard at the rear.
