Description

This building at 1061 Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow dates from around 1860 and is a four-storey tenement designed in the style of Charles Wilson. It features an unequal arrangement of 12 x 7 x 1 bays. The ground floor has been altered at Nos 1055-1059. The façade is made of polished ashlar, with painted sections at Nos 1053-1063 and the first two return bays to Radnor Street, while the ground floor is V-channelled. The westmost elevation facing Clayslaps Road is constructed of droved ashlar, and the rear elevation is made of stugged ashlar.

The building primarily has sash and case windows, with plain windows on the ground floor and a banded frieze above. It is topped with a mutule cornice and has axial stacks.

On the Sauchiehall Street elevation, there is a recessed doorway with double-leaf timber storm doors at No 1065. The first floor features plain tripartite windows with stone mullions in the first, fourth, and eighth bays from the east. There are full-height canted bays in the fourth and eighth bays, while the remaining first-floor windows are single light, set on blind balconies, and framed with architraves that are consoled and corniced, featuring sculpted shell tympana. The second-floor windows follow the same pattern as the first floor but without the tympana and console drops, and the third floor has plain windows.

The Radnor Street elevation mirrors the Sauchiehall Street façade but with a reversed bay pattern across seven bays. There is a tripartite corner section with a recessed semi-circular bay facing Clayslaps Road. The rear elevation includes leaded stairwell lights from the Sauchiehall Street side and mainly features 12-pane glazing.
