Description

Campbell, Reid and Wingate, architects, 1914-1921.

6-storey and attic neo-Egyptian warehouse, 5-bays.

Polished red sandstone, channelled pilaster strips to

ground. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors with windows

recessed from wall plane and divided by giant pillars with

Egyptian capitals supporting stylised entablature and

linked at 4th to give balcony effect.

Ground floor with 5-regularly spaced openings, now all

but 2 blocked. All windows 3-light with 6-pane glazing.

Between 1st and 3rd floors typical period detail of

recessed broad incised panel below cills. 4th floor

windows with mullions bracketted to support entablature.

5th floor windows divided by bold uncarved blocks, each

with diminutive block set into eaves cornice. To attic

floor, bipartite pedimented dormers project from tiled

mansard roof, cast-iron parapet with giant anthemion

finials.
