Description
Patrick Thomas Court is a mid-19th century former warehouse, possibly designed by Robert W Billings, with later additions and alterations. The building is situated in Glasgow and is rectangular in plan, with a symmetrical 3-storey, 15-bay facade. A three-bay shaped gable is centrally positioned, with crowstepped gables to the outer left and right.
The front and west side (Brunswick Street) are constructed of cream sandstone ashlar, while the east side (Candleriggs) is of rubble stone, with ashlar dressings throughout. Features include a flush base course, a string course between the ground and first floors, cill courses at the first and second floors, and a moulded eaves course. The ground floor openings are stop-chamfered, the first floor openings are chamfered, and the second floor openings are stop-chamfered, with roll-moulded detailing on the west side.
The northeast elevation (the main entrance) has a slightly projecting, corniced doorpiece centered at ground level, featuring a blocked opening with a roll-moulded, shouldered-arched surround and decorative motifs. Above this, a shouldered-arched window is located on the first floor, with a shouldered hoodmould and a corbelled apron beneath an arched window on the second floor, also with an arched hoodmould. A circular window is set into the centre of the shaped gablehead. Blocked windows are present at ground level in six bays to the left and six bays to the right of centre, while single windows are found in all bays above. Architraved entrances are at ground level to the outer left and right, with square-headed hoodmoulds over first-floor windows and gabled hoodmoulds over second-floor windows.
The northwest elevation (Brunswick Street) has four bays, with steps leading to a two-leaf timber door offset to the left of centre. A blocked window is to the right, above which is an arched hoodmould framing a shield and swag. A blocked window is also located at ground level to the outer right, and a square-headed pend opening is to the outer left. Shouldered-arched windows are situated in the two central bays on the first floor, each with a shouldered hoodmould, while single windows are to the left and right. Single windows are present in all bays on the second floor, with arched hoodmoulds and crowstepped gableheads above the two central openings.
The southeast elevation (Candleriggs) is a largely blank gable end with a variety of blocked openings.
The building predominantly features timber sash and case windows with four panes of glass, and some blocked openings. The roof is covered in grey slate, with a corniced apex stack to the southeast (missing cans) and a modern ventilation stack to the north. The interior was not inspected in 1999.
