Description

23-25 Belmont Street in Hillhead, Glasgow, is a large classical corner tenement building designed by Frank Burnet in 1876, with additional work by Alexander Watt in 1877 for the adjacent properties at 29 and 31 La Crosse Terrace. The structure consists of four blocks with five bays each, although the west end block and No. 29 La Crosse Terrace are missing. The bays feature a mix of single, bipartite, and tripartite windows, with one flat on each floor. The exterior is finished in finely polished ashlar, with a continuous channelled ground floor. The doorways and first-floor windows are elaborately consoled and corniced, featuring profiled cills, while the upper-floor architraves are simpler, blending into a frieze. A deep mutule cornice crowns the building.

Most of the chimneys, located at the wallhead and gablehead, have been rebuilt or rendered. The windows are primarily plate glass sash and case, with only a few alterations noted.

The rear elevation is constructed from squared rubble with droved ashlar dressings, featuring some original multi-pane sash and case windows and a few later dormers. The roof is covered with concrete tiles.

The interiors have not been seen, but there may be some original fireplaces and plasterwork remaining.
