Description

The Kellie Mausoleum is an ornamental building constructed in the second half of the 18th century. It features two recumbent memorial slabs at the front, with the earlier one commemorating the 7th Earl of Kellie, who died in 1797. However, he is believed to be buried abroad, suggesting that the mausoleum may have originally served as an eyecatcher or folly rather than being built specifically around 1797. The structure has a rectangular plan and a monopitch roof, with the south front displaying a blind gothic window that may have been blocked at some point. There is an entrance door located on the west flank, although the original use of the interior remains uncertain. The building is constructed from rubble with squared dressings, has an ashlar window, and is topped with a slate roof.
