Eastern Cottage, Farm Cottage, Cameron

The Western and Farm Cottages at Cameron Farm Cottages date from 1830 to 1840 and are two connected, single-story workers' cottages built of rubble with ashlar dressings. They are situated northwest of Cameron Steading. Each cottage has a south-facing elevation with a central door flanked by two windows; these windows were unglazed as of 2022. The cottages have simple, unadorned interiors. Straight ashlar skews mark the gables, and the roof is covered with red pantiles, featuring four brick chimney stacks (two gable and two ridge). The rear elevation is largely blank, with no doors and a single window, and there are no later extensions.

Cameron Farm in central Fife has a history as an agricultural settlement dating back to at least the early 17th century. The name of the parish likely originates from the farm, which was owned by Andrew Law of St Andrews in 1640. Accounts from 1845 suggest the farmhouse and steading were built, and the farmland improved, around fourteen years prior, indicating a construction date of about 1832.

The 19th century witnessed significant advancements in Scottish farming, transitioning from subsistence to commercial practices. These improvements involved changes in land use and drainage, new crops, improved animal husbandry, and longer farm tenancies.

The 1853 Ordnance Survey map confirms that the farmhouse, steading, and cottages are in their present locations. These buildings were described on the Ordnance Survey Name Book as a large, two-story farmhouse with offices and a threshing machine, supporting 365 acres of arable land, then tenanted by Henry Miller and owned by the East Anstruther Sea Box Society. The farm has remained in agricultural use continuously since 1853, although the farmhouse has not been tenanted in recent years.
