Description

Rowan Bank is a late 17th century, 2-storey, 5-bay rectangular-plan house located on Back Causeway in Culross. The exterior is harled, with exposed stone surrounds around the door and some windows.

On the southeast elevation, there is a central door on the first floor, accessed by a forestair from the right. A harled stone stair wall supports a slight overhang in the wall to the left. To the right of the stairs is a ground floor window, and to the far right is a roll-moulded window that was formerly a door. There are three ground floor windows to the left of the stairs, and three first floor windows on either side of the door, hugging the eaves, with a small window immediately to the left. A plaque from the National Trust for Scotland is located to the left of the small window.

The southwest elevation is attached to Sandhaven, known as The Tron House. The northwest elevation is partially visible and features a ground floor door and windows, along with four catslide dormer windows on the first floor. The northeast elevation is attached to Hatta Cottage.

The house has replacement timber sash and case windows, mostly with 12 panes, and some windows have chamfered surrounds. There are also some inserted windows. The front door is a replacement timber boarded door with unusual modern door furniture. The roof is pitched and covered with clay pantiles, featuring gable apex stacks and a ridge stack located to the centre left. The interior was not seen during the 2001 assessment.
