Description

1-7 Queen's Court is a three-storey, five-bay detached building with a rectangular plan, dating from 1816. Originally built as a schoolhouse, it has since been converted into flats. The building features a classical design, highlighted by flanking Doric columns at the main entrance. The exterior is harled with droved sandstone ashlar dressings, including a base course, a moulded eaves band, and channelled angle quoins on the principal south elevation. Architraved windows are present throughout.

The south elevation, which is the principal façade, has a projecting central entrance bay. The entrance is framed by an ashlar surround and engaged Doric columns that support an entablature. It features a six-panel timber door with a replacement fanlight above. There is a flat-lintelled Palladian window with false side lights that are blocked and painted. Each flanking bay contains two windows set back on each floor. To the right, a single-storey wing, likely the schoolmaster's house, has one window.

On the north elevation, there is one window in each bay on every floor, while the single-storey wing has one large and one small window set back slightly to the left. The east elevation features an entrance to the single-storey wing at the centre, with the main block set back and blank. The west elevation has windows centered on the first and second floors.

The building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows and piended grey slate roofs. Coped wallhead stacks are located on both the east and west sides, with round cans. Inside, there is a late 20th-century staircase at the centre, but the individual flats were not inspected in 1998.
