Description

This is an earlier 19th-century building, with a slightly later extension, that now serves as Fife Council Housing Services. It adjoins other buildings on two sides and has been connected through to later 20th-century offices and a garage. The original building was designed as a 2-storey, 3-bay classical villa. It has been extended by one bay to the east in a similar style. Later 20th-century additions form a garage on the north side and a 3-storey office section on the south side.

The original block and its eastern extension are constructed from coursed, droved sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. The rear (north) and eastern elevations are of coursed rubble, while the later 20th-century additions are harled. A base course and eaves cornice are present on the original block and the eastern extension; the cornice on the original block is moulded. Decorative cast-iron balconies are located on the first floor of the original block and its eastern extension, facing the principal (south) elevation.

The principal (south) elevation features steps with decorative swept cast-iron handrails leading to a central entrance. Flanking Doric columns support an entablature over the lintel of the entrance, which is a 6-panel timber door with a rectangular border-glazed fanlight. A window is positioned above the entrance, flanked by windows on each floor. The slightly later extension is set back slightly to the right and has a window on each floor.

The eastern elevation has a narrow entrance on the right side of the extension, featuring a replacement boarded timber door and rectangular fanlight. A blocked window is located to the right, with a small inserted window to the left. A stair window is centrally positioned above, with another inserted stair window to the right of the first floor. The later 20th-century garage adjoins the eastern elevation to the right.

The north elevation adjoins the later 20th-century offices and garage, with two bays of the original block and the extension remaining visible at first floor level - each containing a window, the rightmost one being a stair window.

The original block and eastern extension feature 10 and 12-pane timber sash and case windows on the south elevation, with multi-pane timber sash and case windows in earlier openings elsewhere. The roofs are piended and covered in grey slate. A pair of corniced wallhead stacks are located at the junction between the original block and extension; cans are missing.

The interior was not inspected in 1998.
