Description
Coates House is a symmetrical three-storey, five-bay mansion built in the later 18th century, featuring a partially raised basement. The front elevation is constructed of whin rubble with yellow long and short ashlar dressings, while the side and rear elevations are harled. The ground floor openings have been altered, but there is a central round-headed doorway with a keystone, a panelled door, and a fanlight with sidelights. Relieving arches are present over the ground floor openings. The third floor has six-pane sash windows, and there is an eaves and lintel band, with the other windows being twelve-pane sashes. The house has bold, shouldered, and coped end stacks, along with a piended and platformed roof. There are some modern extensions to the north.
