Description
The farmhouse and steading at Kinaldy Farm date from 1862, marked with the initials J P. The farmhouse was re-roofed in 1892 by Gillespie of St Andrews following fire damage, and subsequently reconstructed in 1914 with a later addition. The steading has a rectangular plan with a double internal court. It is constructed of snecked rubble with margined rock-faced dressings. The south elevation features two wide, segmentally arched doors with plain dressings, two flanking rock-faced doors, and an advanced double-gable section to the left, which also features wide, segmentally arched doors. To the right is the farmhouse, a single-storey and attic/two-storey L-plan building with ground-floor bipartites, a chimney gablet on the east flank, and 8-lying pane glazing. A particularly unusual feature is the 5-bay cartshed on the north range, which has a south elevation featuring chamfered segmental arches with rock-faced voussoirs resting on cast-iron columns, with loft windows above. The range dividing the courts incorporates broad, segmentally arched recesses in the walls, originally used as feeding troughs, along with other unusual features. At the north-west corner, the stump of a columnar engine house chimney remains, featuring a dentiled pedestal and moulded base. The buildings are listed for their very unusual detailing of the cartsheds and feeding troughs.
