Description

Pathhead Evangelical Union Congregational Church, built in 1869, is a rectangular-plan, plain, castellated Tudor Gothic church located in Pathhead Court, Kirkcaldy. The church features a five-bay nave and a battlemented porch. Its construction includes narrow ashlar blocks with ashlar dressings, rubble on the sides, and harl on the rear. The building has pointed-arch openings with hoodmoulds on the south side, stone mullions, and chamfered arrises.

On the south entrance elevation, there is a gabled façade with a crenellated porch that contains a two-leaf timber door and a plate glass fanlight, flanked by narrow bipartite windows, all beneath a continuous hoodmould. The date of the church is displayed in the center above the porch. The recessed face of the church has tall windows on either side of the porch, and a raised tripartite window in the gablehead is accompanied by two small lights flanking a corbel of a crenellated, polygonal turret finial.

The north elevation features two tall windows flanking an oculus in the gablehead. Both the east and west elevations have five tall windows that are regularly spaced. The church has diamond-pane leaded glazing with colored margins and is topped with grey slates. The skews are ashlar-coped with moulded skewputts.

Inside, the church has fixed timber pews and a boarded timber dado, with colored glass in the north windows. Additionally, there is an L-plan hall to the north, which has a pointed-arch window on the north gable flanked by square-headed windows, and another pointed-arch window on the west gable.
