Description
The private graveyard of the United Congregational Church in Pathhead, Kirkcaldy, dates back to the late 17th century. It is an enclosed area with gates located to the south and east.
The graveyard features a number of simple classical gravestones, many with curvilinear or pedimented heads. Notable 18th century stones include a segmental-headed memorial to Thomas Alison, dated 1746, which has a tympanum depicting a hand holding a candle-making rack, along with small flanking stones featuring weighing scales and the figure '4'. Nearby, on the southeast wall, there is a small round-headed stone for David Ramsay, dated 1758, which displays symbols related to maltsters.
One curvilinear-headed stone is inscribed to commemorate Andrew Wilson, who is noted for his connection to Sir Walter Scott and the Porteous Mob. The inscription states that he was a native of Kirkcaldy and was executed in Edinburgh in 1736.
The west wall includes a stone featuring three tigers, each holding a shuttle in their mouths, which commemorates the Speedie weavers and Robert Speedie, a manufacturer who died in 1854.
The boundary walls are made of coped rubble and include a wide arched entrance to the south, which may have carvings that are currently obscured by dense foliage. There is also a gate to the east, featuring square-section ashlar gatepiers and stepped coping, along with wrought-iron gates.
