Gate, West Lodge, Leslie House

The West Lodge gate at Leslie House dates from after 1856 and features a semicircular arched carriage entrance with a blind center tablet and a stepped wallhead overthrow. There is a pedestrian gate in the wall flanking the entrance, and an open semi-circular tower beyond it, along with a conical-roofed circular tower on the other side. The structure is built from squared and snecked whinstone, which transitions to random rubble to the east, while the western side maintains the squared and snecked stone. The coped boundary wall is complemented by wooden gates designed with intersecting tracery and cast-iron details. Heavy hoodmoulds extend over the arch, continuing as a string course on the northern elevation, which adjoins the flat coping of the boundary wall to the outer left. The western tower features moulded coping, while the eastern tower has a narrow light that breaks the string course on the northern side, along with another narrow light above the boundary wall to the east. There is a door at the ground level and a narrow light above it to the south, along with a moulded cornice, fish-scale slates, and a ball finial.
