Description
North West Gate at Fordell Castle is an early 19th-century monumental stone gateway designed in a linear plan with quadrant ends. It features a low parapet wall topped by 11 monumental obelisk gatepiers, with four on the right side of the central gate opening and seven on the left. These gatepiers are set on moulded pedestals and have large ball finials. The original cast-iron railings are missing, and in their place, later chain-linked cast-iron posts were installed between the obelisks in 2003.
