Description

Greigston House is mainly an early to mid-18th century small mansion built with rubble and featuring chamfered openings. The building has a U-shaped plan, open to the south. The main central block is two storeys high, with a five-window front. The first-floor windows are taller than those on the ground floor. A crowstepped wallhead attic gable sits above the centre, featuring a panel and a margined and corniced stack. A mid-Victorian crenellated porch has been added to the front. The roof is slated with crowstep gables and similar end stacks.

A two-window gabled section projects from the back, with the original skew now removed. Single-storey lean-to extensions at the rear contain roundel features; the extension on the right connects to a gable with a ball finial and additional roundels, including one at the apex.

Two wings project forward from the main body of the house. The wing on the right (east) may date to the 17th century and has a steeper roof. It originally featured one window overlooking the forecourt and another at the gable, though the latter has been enlarged. The wing on the left (west) is lower and retains its original, lower-pitched roof and three windows facing the courtyard.

Both wings have straight, skewed front gables, topped with square finials that have moulded details. Male and female busts are positioned at the ends of these gables, looking onto the forecourt. The windows are almost entirely reglazed with two-pane sashes.
