Description
South Lodge, part of Elie House, is a Picturesque lodge dating to the later 19th century. It is a single-storey building with an attic, positioned with its East front facing the drive. The lodge has three bays, with a central doorway and the bay to the left slightly advanced and raised above the eaves, featuring a gabled design and a canted bay window at ground level, topped with a small rectangular window in the attic. A small gablet sits above the right-hand window. The lodge is constructed from stugged ashlar with polished dressings, and has a broad-eaved slated roof with rectangular coped end-stacks.
The gateway, which dates to the earlier 19th century, consists of a pair of broad, rectangular piers with a cornice and blocking course, pierced by segmental-headed arched pedestrian entries. The gates themselves are missing. The approach to the gateway is defined by convex quadrant walls built of coursed square rubble with a rounded cope. The North Lodge and Gateway are located within Kilconquhar Parish.
