Kingsbarns House, 6 The Square, Kingsbarns

Kingsbarns House is a mid-18th century house that was reconstructed and extended in 1794 by John Corstorphine, who built it for himself. It is a two-storey, three-window building with an ashlar facade, featuring quoins at the corners. The doorway has an architraved surround, a cornice, and a panel depicting the architect’s instruments in the frieze. A decorated main cornice is dated 1794, and has been recently restored. A parallel structure was added to the rear, likely around the same time, and is roofed with slates. A substantial walled garden is located to the south, with sections of brick-lined walls. The house was the residence of John Corstorphine, an architect and contractor who died on 23rd August 1826 and is buried in the local churchyard.
