Woodbank

Woodbank is a house from the early to earlier 19th century, with some minor alterations made in the 20th century. It is a two-storey building with a rectangular plan and features both piend and platform roofs. The exterior is constructed of random whinstone rubble, accented with contrasting ashlar sandstone dressings and quoin strips, and includes an eaves course.

The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, is symmetrical. At the center, there is a deep-set, part-glazed timber door topped with a small pane fanlight, framed by a broad pilastered and corniced doorcase. Windows are located in the flanking bays, with a regular arrangement of windows on the first floor.

On the north elevation, there is a small modern porch positioned off-center to the right, followed by a window. To the right of the porch is an altered door that has been converted into a window, and there is a blinded window at the outer right. Additionally, there is a piend-roofed porch off-center to the left, with another window in the outer left bay. The center features a margined stair window, and there are bipartite windows in the outer bays on the first floor.

The east elevation has an altered window on the ground floor to the right, and two windows on the first floor, one of which is blind. A boundary wall runs along the outer left side.

On the west elevation, there is a window to the left on the ground floor and a French window in the bay to the right. There are two windows on the first floor, with the right one being false. A boundary wall also abuts the outer left side.

The windows throughout the house feature an 8 and 12 pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case frames, except for the ground floor window on the west side, which has small pane glazing in casement windows, and the ground floor window on the east side, which has plate glass in a modern window. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with clay cans.

Inside, the drawing room boasts decorative cornicing, a husk garlanded frieze, and a center rose. The inner hall features a panelled arch and ceiling, along with a curving staircase that has a decorative cast iron baluster and timber handrail. The interior also includes decorative plasterwork and shutters.

The property is enclosed by boundary walls made of coped rubble and squared rubble, with coped ashlar gatepiers and decorative cast iron gates.
