Description

This is an 18th-century, two-storey-with-attic house, with single-storey wings, situated on Gallowridge Hill near Dunfermline. The house has a rectangular plan and is harled with an ochre colour, accentuated by painted stone surrounds for the windows and quoins. At the front (south) elevation is a modern, flat-roofed porch, with a single window directly above the porch. Flanking the ground floor are windows, and three windows are positioned on the first floor centrally above. To the left is a recessed, four-bay single-storey wing with three windows; a former entrance was situated at the centre window. The right bay is also recessed and contains a glazed door. The wing on the right mirrors the left wing, but features a window instead of a door in the inner bay.

The east elevation presents a first-floor window to the left and a small attic window centrally. A modern, flat-roofed brick extension, which is not included in the statutory listing, is attached to the right gable wall of the east wing. The north elevation has two ground floor and two first-floor windows centred above, with a stair window in the centre. A single-storey wing is attached to the left of the house, featuring a door with flanking windows to the far left, a window to the right, and a window in a recessed bay to the far right. The wing on the right has a door to the far left, a small window to the right, and incorporates two circular columns set into a later wall, along with a rounded northwest quoin.

The house predominantly features two-pane timber sash and case windows. The wings have eight or twelve-pane windows, although some are replacements. The roof is pitched slate with raised kneelered skews, moulded skewputts, corniced gable end stacks, and polygonal clay cans. The wings have piended slate roofs. The interior was not inspected in 2000.

A 19th-century, two-storey granary stands nearby. It is a four-bay structure with a single-storey section attached to the left and external steps on the right. The granary is constructed of exposed sandstone rubble, with droved stone surrounds and quoins. The south elevation features four segmental arched cart openings, four granary openings above with timber louvres, and a door and window in the attached single-storey section. Steps from the south elevation lead to a central first-floor door on the east. The north elevation includes a ground floor window to the far right and three first-floor granary openings. The granary has a red clay pantile roof, gabled to the east and piended to the west, with a gable to the west of the single-storey section. The interior contains an A-frame roof construction and retains timber sarking.
