Description

Cullaloe House Lodge is a small, single-storey, single-bay classical building, likely designed by James Gillespie Graham in the early 19th century. It features finely detailed polished ashlar stonework, a pronounced base course, pilastered and projecting moulded eaves cornice, and a deep parapet at the top of the original lodge. The later 19th century addition is constructed from coursed sandstone with long and short quoins along the vertical margins and window surrounds on the southwest elevation. The rear northwest section has late 20th century modern extensions that are rendered.

On the southeast elevation, the central section is slightly advanced and framed by paired square and circular pilasters surrounding a recessed window of the original lodge. To the left, there is a plain wall of the later 19th century addition, with a late 19th century window inserted between the two. The northeast elevation shows the original lodge with a slightly advanced central section, where paired pilasters flank a blocked central entrance. A low modern extension is set back to the right, attached to a larger square-plan extension on the far right, which has various openings.

The northwest rear elevation originally had a centered window in the lodge, with a modern extension set flush to the right of this window. The late 20th century extensions are advanced to the left and set back to the right, featuring various openings. The southwest elevation includes a symmetrical late 19th century addition on the far right, with a centered door at an advanced single bay porch and flanking windows that are set back. Advanced late 20th century additions extend to the center and left, also with various openings.

The building has modern timber doors with upper glazing, plate glass timber sash and case windows in the original lodge and late 19th century addition, and modern timber windows in the rest. The roofs are grey slate with piended designs for the original lodge, late 19th century addition, and late 20th century extensions, while some parts have flat roofs. There are also two polygonal corniced ashlar stacks with long cans located between the original lodge and the later 19th century addition, with the stack to the right originally positioned at the wallhead of the original lodge.
