Description

Bay House, located at 1 Pan Ha', Panhall, Dysart, dates back to 1583, with a rear wing that may be from the 18th century. The building was reconstructed in 1969 by W Schomberg Scott. It is a two-storey, five-bay house featuring crowstepped gables, a corbelled first floor at the center of the south elevation, and carved skewputts.

On the south elevation facing Pan Ha', the ground floor has a small window to the left of center beneath a corbel table. At the first floor, there are two windows flanking the center, which features a prominent, shouldered wallhead stack and skewputts adorned with carved human heads.

The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, has an advanced gable at the center. It includes a door and a first-floor window on the left return, with a window on each floor to the right return. There is a recessed bay to the right with windows on both floors and an additional door in the recessed bay to the left.

The east elevation has a horizontal light to the left of center at ground level, with a window above it and a small window in the gablehead. This elevation also features a broad gablehead stack.

On the west elevation, there is an advanced gable to the right, which includes a first-floor window and a tiny window in the gablehead, along with a broad gablehead stack. The left side has a recessed face with a first-floor window to the right and a skewputt to the left, also featuring a carved human head.

The windows throughout the house are timber sash and case with 8- and 12-pane glazing patterns. The roof is covered with pantiles, and the stacks are coped with harling and topped with thackstane. The crowsteps are ashlar-coped and feature three grotesque skewputts.

The boundary walls, gatepiers, and gates are made of harled and rubble stone. The eastern boundary includes a square-headed moulded doorway with a lintel inscription that reads "MY HOIP IS IN THE LORD 1583," along with a further moulded round-headed doorway dating from around 1600. The southwest corner features pyramidal-coped square section gatepiers.
