Description

The Former Oddfellows Hall, located at 102-104 Grahams Road, is a three-storey building from the later 19th century, featuring roughly four bays. It has a distinctive bowed corner bay and a triangular pedimented entrance door. The exterior is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with the ground floor channelled (some sections later painted). The building has a deep banded base course and a moulded string course at the ground floor, along with a moulded cill course at the first and second floors and a moulded string course at the second floor. The corniced eaves course includes an inscription on the entablature that reads 'LOYAL SIR JOHN DE GRAEME LODGE, INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODDFELLOWS', which is balustraded on the principal east elevation and has a single bay return to the south. The windows at the ground, first, and second floors have moulded architraved surrounds, with the second-floor windows being bi-partite.

On the east elevation, there are roughly four bays, including the bowed bay on the left (south) side at the first and second floors. The centre bay at the second floor is flanked by foliate console brackets and features a pedimented and bracketed bas-relief panel above, integrated with the balustrade. The main entrance is centrally located and topped with a triangular pediment. A round arched window at the second floor is keystoned and has a moulded architraved surround.

The south elevation consists of ten bays, with a slightly advanced flanking bay on the right (east) side that has full-height channelled ashlar pilasters. There is a doorway on the right (east) side, along with paired pilastered doorways to the left (west), which are flanked by foliate console brackets. Another doorway is located on the outer left (west) with a corniced surround.

The west elevation is made of coursed random sandstone rubble and features roughly regular fenestration in plain surrounds. The north elevation is similar to the west, with an adjacent property abutting on the left (east).

Most windows are boarded as of 2010, although some original etched glazing remains in the bowed bay. The building has a hipped roof covered with grey slates and corniced ashlar wallhead stacks with some clay cans.

Inside, there is a small entrance vestibule that leads to a stone stair with well-detailed cast-iron balusters and a timber handrail. The upper hall features a vaulted ceiling with some decorative plasterwork.
