Description
The Rococo Temple in Amisfield Park is a mid-18th century folly, likely designed by Isaac Ware. It features a Tetrastyle Roman Doric design with four columns that have rock-faced banding and eroded Rococo ornamentation on the pediment. The main body of the building is constructed from conglomerate ashlar, while the entablature is made of irregularly alternating red and yellow sandstones. Each side elevation has two arched window openings, with the forward one being blind, and they display alternating rock-faced rustication and grotesque-headed keystones. The rear elevation is plain, featuring two window openings and a cellar entrance below. The internal arches of the doorway and windows at the rear of the portico have collapsed. There is a plain fireplace and flue on the rear wall. The temple is currently roofless and in poor condition.
