Description
East Gate at Amisfield Park is likely from the early 18th century and features gatepiers and the ruins of two gate lodges, which were probably once symmetrical.
The gatepiers are tall and square in shape, made of rusticated red sandstone, and have a cornice, although the finials are missing. Quadrant screen walls, constructed from rubble and originally harled, connect to single-opening links that lead to the remains of the gate lodges to the north and south.
The ruined gate lodges consist of three bays and were originally two stories high, but are now very ruinous and built from random rubble. They have raised, dressed, and chamfered margins made from red and yellow sandstone and were originally harled. The remains of the southern lodge are entirely incorporated into the walls of Amisfield Park, while the northern lodge is more substantial, featuring slit windows that lead to a raised basement.
