Description
South Keeper's Cottage at Barns Ness Lighthouse was designed by engineer D A Stevenson in 1901. The structure features a tall, slightly tapering circular tower that is rendered and accented with long and short ashlar dressings. At the top of the tower is a circular lantern above a gallery, which has triangular lattice panes and a domed top.
The keepers' cottages consist of a pair of single-storey, flat-roofed buildings, each with three bays and also rendered with long and short ashlar dressings. Each cottage has a central door flanked by two windows, featuring a four-pane glazing pattern. There are three coped stacks on the roofs. Surrounding the cottages is a railed retaining wall that includes two vehicle entrances, each marked by square, coped gatepiers.
