Description
Temple Mains House is a late 18th-century house located in Innerwick Village, prominently positioned on high ground alongside the church and often mistaken for the manse. It is a plain, two-story, three-bay structure, and it is believed that the house may have been raised from a single-story cottage or once abutted a cottage to the west. The exterior is of random rubble construction with droved ashlar dressings. The south elevation features a central doorway flanked by narrow windows, with three further windows on the first floor. The north (rear) elevation shows irregular openings and single-story additions, one of which is harled. The west gable is blank, displaying a line marking the former gable at a single-story height. A single-story addition is located to the east, and this extension was only adjoined after 1907. The windows are sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. Gable end stacks feature ashlar coped skews, and the roof is covered in grey slates. A boundary wall of the church graveyard abuts the gabled extension to the east. The statutory address is 1 Temple Mains Cottages, Innerwick.
