Description
The building is a battery located on Lamer Island in Dunbar Harbour, designed by Andrew Fraser in 1781. It features a D-plan bastion that is rounded on the northwest coastal side, with a small projection at the southern corner. The structure is constructed from large squared sandstone rubble laid in courses, with some remaining ovolo coping. There is a central arched entrance on the southwest side, which includes alternating long and short voussoirs. The battery also has 16 pierced embrasure ornament openings.
Inside, there is a gun platform at a higher level of the yard, supported by rubble walling from the ramp areas. The southeast corner contains a barrel-vaulted basement range. Additionally, there was a former two-storey house at the southern corner, which is now a shell; two embrasures have been altered to serve as windows.
