Description
South Lodge in Elvingston is a single-storey, T-plan gabled lodge, possibly designed by John Tait around 1837. It is constructed from stugged grey ashlar and features a base course, hoodmoulds, and chamfered reveals. The main entrance has a later flat-roofed stone porch located in the re-entrant angle, which includes a panelled door. To the right of the entrance is a window, while the left side has an advanced bay with a canted window and a slit opening in the gablehead above. There is a modern harled addition at the rear. The lodge has horizontally sliding sash and case windows with an 8-pane glazing pattern, although modern glazing is present at the rear. The roof is covered with grey slates, and it has timber bracketed eaves that are rendered and lined, along with paired diamond stacks.
In addition, there are low, coped ashlar quadrant walls and panelled ashlar corniced gatepiers leading to the main road.
