23-27 Townhead

23-27 Townhead is an early 19th century, two-storey, three-bay building that is nearly symmetrical. It features a nepus gable and shops on the ground floor, which have been converted to offices on the upper storey in 2010. The exterior is made of coursed, tooled rubble, painted on the upper storeys, and includes an eaves band and raised margins. There are steps leading to a central entrance close, which has a commemorative plaque above it. To the right, there is a shop with an entrance door and a window at the far right, while the left side has a modern shop front. The central gable has a pair of window openings and a coped stack at the apex. At the rear, there is a circular stair tower topped with a conical slated roof, along with a single-storey extension.

The building has a predominantly non-traditional glazing pattern and is covered with grey slates. There are raised skew and skewputt features on the left ridge.

Inside, as seen in 2010, there is a spiral staircase at the rear of the close that provides access to the upper storey. The upper storey contains some tiled fireplaces with cast iron fire grates, but the room plan has been comprehensively modernised.
