Description
6 Grange Terrace in Kilmarnock is a symmetrical two-storey, three-bay dwelling house built around 1851, with a small outbuilding attached to the north elevation. The structure is made of squared and snecked sandstone rubble and features a base course, a central castellated porch, and hoodmoulds over the ground floor windows and door.
The west (principal) elevation showcases the central castellated porch, which has a gothic arched window on its front. To the left of the porch is an entrance door with a fanlight and hoodmould. There are single windows flanking the porch on both sides, with regular fenestration on the first floor.
On the north elevation, there is a small gothic arched window in the gablehead, and a single-storey, single-bay wing is attached at ground level. The east (rear) elevation was not visible in 2001. The south elevation also features a small gothic arched window in the gablehead.
The main house has 10-pane timber sash and case glazing, while the wing has 2-pane glazing. The roof is slate, with coped gablehead stacks and tall cans.
The outbuilding and boundary wall include a small coped wall facing Grange Terrace, a taller coped wall to the north and west, and a pair of timber gates in the garden wall. The outbuilding, which is one storey and single bay, is incorporated into the northwest corner of the wall and features a pair of timber garage doors with gothic arched niches, along with a timber hayloft hatch above.
