Description
Hurlford Parish Church, built in 1875 by J Ingram of Kilmarnock, is a Gothic church featuring a steeple. It is accompanied by a manse that is recessed and adjoins the church on the right. Both structures are made of rock-faced red ashlar and topped with red-ridged slate roofs, situated within their own grounds, which include a boundary wall to the street made of rock-faced ashlar and iron railings, along with Gothic gatepiers.
The church has a gabled front facing the main road, with a wide entrance that includes a sculptured marble roundel in the tympanum. The steeple is located on the right side of the church, which has an essentially rectangular plan. The interior is unusually elaborate, featuring a lavish pulpit, back-board, organ, and organ gallery. It includes a three-sided gallery and two-level aisles, with decorative columns that have foliate capitals, decorative plasterwork, and an open-timber roof. The windows contain painted, leaded glass.
The manse is two stories tall and has an L-shaped front with a Gothic porch in the re-entrant angle, which is enhanced by paired lancets. It also features plate glass sash windows.
