Description
The Walled Garden at Lanfine Estate dates from the earlier 19th century and features a large rectangular design. It is surrounded by outer walls to the south, east, and west, with derelict lean-to potting sheds on the outer face of the north wall. The outer walls measure approximately 140 yards by 130 yards and are constructed of double-skin red brick, topped with sandstone ashlar copes and door architraves. Regularly spaced Tudor-arched moulded ashlar door architraves are present, along with raised wallheads at the corners and the center of the north wall. The southeast and southwest corners have splayed wing-walls on the outer side. A moulded entablature adorns the central entrance of the outer wall to the west, while the outer wall on the east side is largely demolished, and the southern outer wall is bowed.
In the center of the outer face of the north wall, there is a 3-bay lean-to that was likely a former potting shed, featuring coped skews, a central door, and flanking windows. To the right, there is a slightly lower 9-bay range that includes a 3-bay vehicle shed, with evidence of heating flues on the wall to the left. The outbuildings have chamfered margins and slate roofs.
