51 Monifieth Road, Dundee

51 Monifieth Road in Dundee is a semi-detached villa pair built in 1930 by Gauldie, Hardie and Sharpe. This single-storey and attic cottage-style building features a rectangular plan with six bays and is designed in a late Arts and Crafts style. The exterior is harled with a red tile roof, and it has a harled stack with brick coping and original black cans. The windows are mainly timber casement types with six and eight panes, although the uPVC window frames at number 51 are not in keeping with the original style. Some of the windows have painted cills and lintels.

On the south elevation, there are paired canted windows at the center, flanking two-leaf tongue and groove doors with glazed diamond panels, and windows in the outer bays. The roof has deep eaves, paired jettied gables, and dormers at the center with horizontal fenestration, along with a central ridge stack.

The east and west gables each have a door and window at the ground floor level, with a stair window on the first floor featuring a timber transom and mullion flanking eight- and twelve-pane casements, and a lintel course above.

The north elevation has been slightly altered, featuring a lean-to projection at the center and flanking multi-pane tripartite windows set back beneath gabled dormers, with doors on the left and right. The first floor has paired gables similar to the south elevation, although the glazing at number 51 has been altered.

Additionally, there is an original rubble wall to the south and east with four pairs of plain gatepiers, and a garage styled similarly to the houses at number 53, with its entrance from Norrie Street.
