Description
The office of J & D Grimmond, located at 1-3 King Street in Dundee, dates from around 1815 and was refronted in 1877 by Edward and Robertson. This four-storey and basement building features a bow front and is constructed from ashlar and coursed rubble. It occupies a tight gusset site and has architraved windows throughout.
The west elevation, dating from 1877, has three bays with a channelled ashlar ground floor and a central arched entrance. The centre window is consoled at the first floor and has a pediment at the second floor. The elevation facing King Street has three and four storeys, with windows in architraves, two of which have consoles, along with cill and band courses. There is a gabled wallhead stack.
The Cowgate elevation is similar and includes a basement, with the left bay featuring a blind window. The roof is slate, semi-conical over the bow, and topped with a wrought-iron finial. All windows are sash and case, with a two-pane glazing pattern.
