Description
37-41 Cowgate in Dundee is an early 18th century building that was refronted around 1800. It is a three-storey structure with an attic, featuring a four-bay front made of ashlar stone, while the sides and rear are constructed of rubble. The ground floor includes a pend and a shop, the latter adorned with a cornice and consoled brackets. The first floor has a shouldered cill course. There is a wallhead stack with two windows, one of which is blind, and a gable end stack with two dormers. The rear of the building is asymmetrical, being narrow at the pend and deeper to the left. A projecting semi-circular stair leads to a tower topped with a semi-conical roof, with a gable on the left and a fragment of a shaped gable on the right. The building features sash and case windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern, although some have been altered to have two or four panes. The roof is covered with slate.
