Description
Summerfield is a farmhouse and steading dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, constructed around a quadrangular cobbled courtyard. The building is entirely whitewashed.
The south range is primarily a two-storey, three-bay house featuring a central porch and end stacks. It has a wide fourth bay to the west, which includes a garage door and a single window above. This section is built of brick and harled, except for the courtyard side, and has slightly segmental-arched openings with painted margins. The eaves are finished with brick nogging, and there is a forestair leading to the courtyard on the west side.
The west range consists of brick at the north end, while the remainder is built from rubble. It features scrolled skewputts, an apsidal former horsemill, and two gabled loft doors on the west side. The north and east steading ranges, along with the piended courtyard block, are all lower and constructed from rubble. The roofs of all sections are covered with graded slates.
