Description

The viaduct at Carronhill Glen, part of the Closeburn-New Cumnock railway line, was engineered by John Miller and opened on October 28, 1850. This railway viaduct features four round arches that support a double track across a small glen, along with an additional single skewed segmental arch to the south that spans an unclassified road. The structure is built from pinkish ashlar stone, with rusticated voussoirs and bullfaced piers. It has a moulding beneath the coped parapet and outer pilaster strips. The arch over the roadway is treated similarly but is plainer and has wide abutments.
