Description

The bridge at Carronbridge was likely constructed in the second half of the 18th century. It is a road bridge featuring a single segmental arch over the Carron Water. The bridge was widened on corbel tables in the 19th century, with this extension still visible to the east, and it was further widened in the 20th century with a secondary arch to the west. The structure is built from rubble with red ashlar dressings. The east parapet has been widened at the approaches, while the other parapet remains almost straight. Additionally, there is a small square-section tunnel on the north abutment that runs the full width of the bridge.
