Description

74 High Street in Kirkcudbright is a 17th-century terraced house featuring two stories and dormerless attics with three wide bays. The building is constructed from rubble and painted. On the left side, there is a round-arched pend with roll-moulding that leads to Cannon's Close. The entrance door is located off-centre to the right, with one lower blocked door in the center and a small window to the left, along with one window to the right. The first floor has three small windows, with an inset panel in a bolection-moulded frame between the center and left windows, and a relieving arch in the masonry between the center and right bays. The house has straight skews, end stacks, and a steeply pitched slate roof.

At the rear, facing Cannon's Close, there is a lower wing that likely contains three cottages from the early 19th century. The left cottage and the two on the right are each two stories and two bays wide, built from rubble, with the left cottage featuring margins and painted. The windows have either 12 or 16-pane glazing, and all cottages have slate roofs. The paint was removed from the main house around 1985.
