Description

66 High Street in Kirkcudbright is a 17th-century terraced house that has undergone modern renovations. The building is two stories high with dormerless attics and features five bays. It is constructed from rubble with some pink sandstone dressings. A central round-arched pend leads to a rear close. To the left, No 70 has a door and two windows, which have been altered between a door and a window. To the right, there are two windows. The central first-floor window has been reset higher in the wall, but the original cill remains in place, flanked by two inserted windows. No 68 is accessed from the pend and has five first-floor windows, with the outer two being lower. Before restoration, only the central and outer right windows were present. The building has straight skews and a slate roof. No 66 features a single-storey and attic rear wing in the close, along with an additional two-storey, two-bay house to the south. No 70 also has two stories and two bays in the close, while No 68 includes an additional two-storey, four-bay house to the south with deeply recessed sash windows, two of which are located on the first floor. The close itself is rubble-built and painted, topped with slate roofs.
